When I received the first email from Valerie inquiring about wedding photography, I knew we were simpatico. She loves children’s literature and being crafty. Her fiance Lloyd loves comic books and Batman (in particular). Then we met up and they told me more about the wedding they were planning; they described it as a Bruce Wayne cocktail party at Wayne Manor. So, yeah, I wanted to photograph this wedding so badly! Valerie and Lloyd’s wedding kicked off my 2012 wedding season this past April and it was everything I dreamed of and more. They found their Wayne Manor in the form of the Asa Waters Mansion in Millbury. So many of the wedding details were created by Valerie and Lloyd and their families. I’ll give as much info as I can, but Valerie documents a lot of it on her blog, Meek Manor (featuring some of the photos we captured on their wedding day). There were so many photos I wanted to post, but I tried to be restrained. Studies say (yes, I read “studies”) you should only post about 15 photos. I way exceeded that limit, but I like to buck convention anyway! Without further ado…
My second shooter, Kristin, hung with the guys before the wedding and got some amazing photos of Lloyd getting ready. I’m only sharing the PG ones.
Toto the Wonder Dog. All superheroes need sidekicks of some sort and Toto has definitely become Lloyd’s! The Asa Waters Mansion and the beautiful flowers that decorated the space. Valerie’s sister-in-law Ashley, of Red Door Event and Design, did the flowers (and a lot of other stuff, too, I’m sure!).
Valerie’s mother *made* the wedding dress, complete with these awesome colorful buttons and ladybug details! One of Valerie’s favorite characters from children’s lit is Ladybug Girl, so both Ladybug girl and ladybugs featured prominently in the decor. Her mom also made the cake! And the coins and such dangling off the bouquet commemorate loved ones who had passed away.
Lloyd being pinned by Ashley. One of these days, I need to take lessons on how to effectively pin a boutonniere. Check out the little bat detail hiding in the flowers!
Valerie and Lloyd did a First Look so we could get most of the photos out of the way before the ceremony! And so Toto could join them for some photos. He wasn’t allowed to stay for the ceremony, but we made sure he got some times in the spotlight (although something tells me he spends most of his time in the spotlight!).
We took some more traditional wedding party portraits, but then we got to take some superhero portraits! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s….
Lloyd and his Best Man Chris handmade this cutout of Batman and Ladybug Girl for some reception fun! Yet another handmade personalized detail…Valerie and Lloyd, your wedding was a treasure trove of wonders to photograph, but the best thing about it was watching two people truly in love. You guys are so wonderful and so obviously meant for each other! Congratulations a million times over!
