Jen & Hala’s voices rang out as they joined the chorus for a song. Despite Hala losing her voice the night before, it seemed the hot tea and whispering and determination cured it all. It’s not every day I witness my wedding couples singing during their own wedding ceremony, but then again, this was a pretty special wedding.
Jen & Hala found love online and, after only a few dates, knew it was meant to be. Jen loved how independent Hala was, and how kind. Hala loved how much Jen loved her family and friends, and her enthusiasm for adopting some of Hala’s culture. The two of them love being outside together; holding their wedding at Thompson Island meant they got to enjoy the outdoors and all the proceeds benefitted the Outward Bound program! Thompson Island is one of the many islands in Boston Harbor, so the wedding guests rode over on a ferry the afternoon of the wedding. The blustery wind gave everyone a good reason to huddle up to the person next to them. Reverend Kim Crawford Harvie of Arlington Street Church performed the ceremony in front of a view of the Boston skyline. Jen & Hala joined Coro Allegro, Hala’s chorus, and sang for their wedding guests. Jen’s arms around Hala to keep both of them warm, they exchanged vows in front of their family and friends.
After the ceremony, we hopped on a golf cart and traveled around the island for portraits. Thompson Island has some amazing scenery! We spent some time in the remains of an old root cellar, built in 1903 for a boys’ farm school. The history of the island is fascinating! These two women are so happy wrapped in each other’s arms. They are totally at ease in front of the camera because they are caught up in their love for each other. Plus, hugging and probably a good dose of post-ceremony adrenaline helped keep them warm! With the start of the reception, dry-ice smoke filled the dance floor for the brides’ first dance. When a reception kicks off like that, you know the party is going to be good! Everyone danced, mingled, and enjoyed the unique venue. At sunset, the view of the city is amazing and we snuck outside for a few extra portraits. When I boarded the ferry to head back to the city, the party was still going strong. The lights from the DJ flashed out over the island, a burst of color in the dark.
